Teaching Philosophy

My philosophy of teaching is guided by three main principles:

(1) the value of lifelong learning
(2) the importance of collaboration
(3) the need to set students up for success

I believe that there is no end to learning. There are always new opportunities to explore new learnings. I am excited for the discoveries in my research, as well as supporting students in their own discoveries.

I believe that learning is made stronger through collaboration. For this reason, I create opportunities for students in my classes to collaborate with each other as well as approach my own teaching opportunities as possibilities for collaboration. Lastly, as an instructor, I strive to set my students up for success.

I teach from an inclusive perspective, where I embrace the diversity of my students, and work to provide them with opportunities to be successful both in terms of their grades and in a broader sense of success. This final component is also central to my program of research and shows synergy between my teaching and research.
